Qué mejor que alguien que ha estado en tu lugar para ayudarte. Si eres fotógrafo o fotógrafa, y quieres montar tu propio estudio de fotografía, esto es una señal de que puedes conseguirlo.

En el artículo de hoy, por un lado te vamos a dar algunos consejos para montar un estudio de fotografía de publicidad y retrato desde cero. Y por otro, te vamos a contar de forma breve la trayectoria que le ha permitido a Katherin Wermke, la fundadora de Barcelona Photographer, tener su propio estudio de fotografía en Barcelona. Una historia de esfuerzo constante que a día de hoy se sigue escribiendo. Y con más tesón y más fuerza, si cabe.

Como adelanto, te diremos que a veces un objetivo no se logra a la primera. O quizás sí se logra, pero no de la forma en la que querías desde un principio o no sale como esperabas. Y está bien, veamos aprendizajes y no errores. Lo importante es tener la capacidad de adaptarse, de seguir a pesar de las trabas, de aprender en el camino y de perseguir aquello que deseas tener. Sea un estudio propio o un estudio alquilado, otra opción muy interesante a tener en cuenta.

Define tu estilo fotográfico y tu público objetivo

Hay tantas posibilidades que a veces cuesta elegir. O puede que no, puede que tengas muy claro desde tus inicios qué tipo de fotografía de retrato o fotografía de publicidad quieres realizar en tu estudio. Pero en ambos casos vas a necesitar definirlo para centrar todas tus acciones y energías de la forma correcta.

Por ejemplo, ¿Te inclinas más hacia los retratos corporativos, la fotografía de moda, o la publicidad de productos? Definir esto tu nicho te va a permitir enfocar tus inversiones y esfuerzos en el público adecuado.

Y en lo que a tu estilo fotográfico se refiere, y el que te va a diferenciar en el mercado, también tienes que definirlo al principio. Dedica tiempo a experimentar con diferentes técnicas de iluminación, composición y postproducción. Con el equipo que tengas, y dentro de tus posibilidad. Porque esto también te ayudará a diseñar tu proceso creativo. Y con ello, a buscar un espacio adecuado para el tipo de fotografía que deseas realizar.

Esto no quiere decir que no puedas experimentar más adelante, sino que debes inclinarte hacia un camino para saber si es por el que deseas continuar creciendo. O cambiar de rumbo. Y siéntete libre de hacerlo las veces que haga falta. Porque la fotografía es una forma de expresión, con lo cual, te tienes que sentir alineado con el tipo de fotografía con el que quieres ganarte la vida.

Elegir el espacio para tu estudio y perseguir tus metas

Una vez sabes qué tipo de espacio necesitas para realizar las fotografías que deseas, puedes alquilar un estudio de fotografía. En tus inicios, si no deseas, o no te es posible, invertir todos los meses en alquilar o en pagar la cuota de la compra de un local, lo mejor es buscar el apoyo de otros fotógrafos. Así te resultará mucho más sencillo empezar a ganar cliente y conseguir tus primeros trabajos. Porque la inversión será mínima, y a la vez, tendrás a tu disposición un espacio profesional para trabajar, que ante tus clientes, te dejará en un buen lugar. Les transmitirás mayor profesionalidad y con ello, les vas a generar una mayor confianza.

Otra opción es buscar a otros fotógrafos para unir fuerzas y poder asumir la cuota de alquiler de un local para convertirlo en estudio de fotografía. O empezar en el salón de tu casa, por pequeña que sea, si es posible. Como anécdota, y porque hemos prometido contarte cómo empezó Katherin Wermke, ella comenzó a trabajar como fotógrafa en Barcelona en 2002, en el salón de su casa de 40 metros cuadrados. Y después tuvo dos estudios que compartió con compañeros de sector. Desde el 2021 es co-fundadora del estudio de fotografía en Barcelona Photo Utopia (@photoutopiabcn), y también ha fundado hace ya 15 años su propia productora audiovisual en Barcelona, Barcelona Photographer.

Aunque su carrera en el mundo audiovisual comenzó a sus 19 años, y uno de sus mayores logros, y por el que puede estar muy orgullosa, es no haberlo dejado nunca. La perseverancia es una herramienta muy poderosa.

Prueba y decide el tipo de estudio de fotografía que quieres montar

Crear y crear. Si este es tu objetivo como fotógrafo o fotógrafa, tienes varias opciones a tu alcance hasta que decidas montar tu propio estudio. Si es que al final decides que es para ti.

Mientras, prueba. Pero hazlo en un espacio profesional con todo lo que vas a necesitar para crear un portfolio impecable y con la mejor calidad. Que refleje tu esencia, y tu creatividad, y que genere un impacto entre tu público objetivo.

¿Cómo y dónde? Si eres de Barcelona o alrededores, puedes crear tanto como quieras en Photo Utopia, el estudio de la agencia fotográfica Barcelona photographer. Este estudio está ubicado en una zona magnífica de Barcelona, en el barrio de Gràcia. Y en él tienes a tu alcance dos platós, uno de 90 metros cuadrados y otro de 40 metros cuadrados. Que juntándolos, si necesitas un plató muy grande para tu proyecto, suman 130 metros con todo lo que vas a necesitar para desarrollar tu lado más creativo.
